Have you ever wanted, in the back of your mind, to date a celebrity? Most of us have looked upon some celebrities with that lust in our eyes. But what is this lust for? One simple word sums it all up: MONEY. We all want a piece of the good-old greenback bill. Some of us don't care how we get it, we just want it. It changes a person, how they view life, and also how they act.
There are numerous "Reality" Shows in which the world can see some famous person take people and see who is their soul-mate. But do these shows really work? How many of these people keep the same person for longer than a couple weeks or months? There are constantly second seasons, which shows that they need a new soul-mate. These "soul-mates" seem to instantly fall in love with the celebrity. They claim to do anything the person wants to get their love and affection back. But do they want the love and affection, the money, or the reputation of dating a person of such high social status.
True love includes sacrifice. You won't know when you have it until you need to make a sacrifice to keep it strong, and in return it becomes stronger. We don't see that all the time in our TV shows and Dating shows. We need to learn the difference between True Love and Money Love. It is what will keep this nation alive.

Graduation Test
We have all heard about the struggle between Americans and Mexicans and the illegal immigrant issues. There is dispute over them being citizens of the United States. Now people are testing the actual young citizens of America, to see if they themselves would be able to pass the citizenship test. What have these test shown? It shows us that we as youth of America, are not attentive, or caring about the politics, history, etc. about the US.
If we don't pay attention to these details about our government and society, than we are not doing our parts as American Citizens. Our country is led by elected officials. We elect the officials, therefore we have a say in who we want to run our country. If we do not make an educated decision, then we could possibly end up with a ruler who does not do the things that are to our liking. One of the duties of an American Citizen is to vote, but it means nothing if you do not vote smart.
We also have our freedoms because of the founding fathers, and the people who have fought in the many wars we've had. How can we honor their contributions if we do not even remember what they worked so hard for? It is a good idea to have this be a bigger part of school curriculum. We need to know how this country works if we are going to make it grow.

Love and Abuse
Love and Abuse.
Seemingly two complete opposites, yet they can blend together so inconspicuously. So much of our lives revolve around these boy-girl relationships. We listen to others while keeping ours rather secretive. Yet for every good relationship, there is a bad relationship. A guy sweetly charming a girl combined with a guy stalking her every move. There is such a fine line between love and abuse, we sometimes cross over it without even thinking twice. You may think you are doing what's best for your boyfriend or girlfriend, but you might be doing too much.
It may start out as small and simple things, but it turns into a controlled relationship by one or the other. It is a snowball effect. If you give someone the feeling that they can ask anything of you, and you'll do it, then they may take advantage of you and control your life. From telling you what to wear, to who you can and can't hang out with. It can get ugly in a hurry. You start trying to get out of the relationship, but you are afraid of what the other person can do, so you seek help and counsel, and then the whole thing becomes a big mess.
There is the kind of adolescent love. This is the kind of love you see throughout many High Schools and even some Jr. High Schools. It seems as if you were made for each other, yet it never lasts. It can ruin friendships between each other, and other friends. It is usually just fun and flirty love. It can still be good for people to have, if you learn from mistakes, then you can become a better and better person for someone to meet. This is where most of the abuse can be started. It is an easy mistake for young people to make.
Lastly there is true love. It is the love that keeps people together for decades, through death. It is love that cannot be marred by a simple mistake by either member of the relationship. It is the love that produces children, and makes other people jealous of what they don't have. It is the kind of love that people seek, yet don't always find. It is very tough for abuse to be created when this love is present.
This is the difference between love and abuse. If you love someone, you don't want anyone to hurt them, including yourself. This kind of love is a lost art that you don't find until you are fully mature, and ready for an eternal companion.

Celebrities
Celebrities. Either you love them, you hate them, or you don't pay attention to them. Some even say that they are heroes and that they are the greatest thing on the planet. But how far can we take that comment? Everywhere you look, you see people modeling themselves after there favorite celebrity or sports figure. They will dress up in their outfits, change their hairstyles, and other such things to become closer to them. Some people even go as far as changing their behavior to the way they think these people act.
The question is: Do you really want that person as a role model? Most people need to take a step back and look at the big picture. You look at these celebrities and what are most of them doing? Going and partying until the crack of dawn on weekends, and other things that I won't mention here. How do we know that little kids won't start doing these things? Even professional athletes are questionable role models. With all the tattoos they have on their bodies, it's tough to believe we still have ink for pens!
Now despite what we do or say, these people do have big influences over many people across the world. Everything they do is being watched by someone else. Think about your life, if you had someone watching your every move, would you do some things different, do some things you weren't planning on doing, or not doing some things at all? Most of us have secrets that we would be terror-stricken if they got out in public, which is what these people have to live with everyday. It is amazing that these people can live like this and still go out in public!
These people, while amazingly tough, are still not the best people to become role models. The most appropriate models should be a father or mother, who have raised you to become the person you are. While some celebrities and athletes are better than others, you must pick and choose your models carefully.

The Net-Generation
What would you say if you heard that we, as teenagers, are self-centered, irresponsible, incompetent individuals addicted with computers, cell-phones, I-pods, etc. Well this is what many adults are saying about the youth of America today. You are not too bright, yet experts at figuring out technological devices. This is the classic portrait of how kids and teenagers think.
Right off the bat, I'll own up to the fact that I spend a lot of time listening to music when I am bored which includes: Riding the bus to and from school, Doing dishes, Mowing the lawn, etc. Yet often times I don't use it. I also spend a bit of each day on the computer, but most of it is for more educational purposes. The Internet has become a great place to enhance your knowledge, but it has also become sort of a death trap for us teens who don't know how to model our time right. I know of people who will spend more time chatting on Facebook then actually calling up a friend and doing something together.
Something that this article does not mention is the fact that not only are we becoming more digital, but so is the older generation. Half of my assignments from school now involve the internet. I have entire homework problems on-line, as well as lessons from various teachers. Adults have realized as well how much easier the internet is to use then handing out paper packets. So because we are required to accomplish schoolwork on the internet, makes us addicted?
It claims in the article that we are irresponsible with our personal information and other items. They have accused us of posting inappropriate pictures online, becoming a different person in chatrooms, and that we are only trying to make ourselves feel more important. I know that many people are victims of such behavior, yet none of the people I personally know and interact with everyday do this sort of thing. I know that there are people like that all around me, but I don't associate with them. I am around the people who can refrain from doing things that end up biting them in the butt. I know where to draw the line when it comes to internet and personal information, which disproves that statement.
All-in-all, this article does not have much of a backbone. It is basically a bunch of quotes and arguments from various reporters, academics, and individuals. The accusation that we are poor citizens and people who are unable to communicate in a civilized manner is completely false. If you go into a high school during lunch you will see everyone talking to everyone else. We are the Net-Generation and we are not so much different than generations before us, just enhanced.
